Voice at my home.

Walking home
Ear buds in ears
Listening to a random song on shuffle
Turning down my street with a clear mind
Suddenly my mind fills up with thoughts
Looking at the empty house and horse field to my right
Red lived in that barn
But now he is in California
Not back till spring
Walking down the quiet street
Turning into my driveway
Walking around to the back
Mind still full with thoughts and memories
Memories of Friends in Seattle
Digging into my pocket producing keys
Unlocking the door
I walk inside
Put my Ipod down
Opening the sliding door to let the dog out
Standing in the so-called cold
Waiting for dog to finish up her business
The dog runs in I take a deep breath and follow shutting the door
Leaving the nice fresh air out
Walking to the other side of the house letting the cat out of her room
Getting attacked as soon as she gets out
Sitting on the couch opening my laptop up
Going to Facebook
Writing a quick status
Then logging out
Going to another site where I pretend I’m someone else
Practicing my writing skills there
Having a blast
Getting bored I get off
All the while I am getting attacked by a cat
Going to my room looking around
Laying on the bed
Reading for who know how long
Mom comes home and I still read
Going to bed late within the night

Visiting my father’s house
Living there I lock myself in my room
Only coming out for food and bathroom
I would read, play on the computer, and call friends
Avoiding my dad and sister
I would come out and get yelled at
Getting angry and hide again
Wanting an escape everyday
Not getting one until I moved to a small town

This is my voice while at my two homes
People would call me anti-social
But I just have a different way of living

My voice from friends to home to children

Seattle
So out going
But afraid
Weird people around every corner
Seeing friends and acting like nothing is wrong
Or complain about my home life
Using different words to express myself
Big difficult words that explain myself, and the world Ilive in
School I use the worst language not many approve of
Going home and saying nothing that will get me in trouble
Going to church I say words that aren’t bad
Keeping my mouth clean
Sundays I go downstairs
One level above the basement
Walking into a big room
Filled with children from kindergarten to 6^thgrade
Walking in and talking to the Children’s pastor
Smiling and go to hang out with some of the kids
Talking in small calm voices
Going to the back as they start their lesson
Waiting with the others till its our time to do our part
Changing rolls every month
From being the mysterious character who learns something
To leading worship
Two different ways of talking
This is what this poem is
Combining two languages in your life
But I compare mine
This is how my life is different

Walking through thehalls
Books in my hands
I was looking down
Avoiding eye contactis what I do best
Halls practicallyempty
Walking to my nextclass
Read and pass notesfor people
Next class I waittill lunch
Bell finally rings
Placing my books inmy locker
Going to wait in theline for lunch
Listening to stories
Sitting down at atable that is filled with 3 people talking
As I sit and eatignoring it all
I finish eating and Iput the tray away
Going to the table tosay my “See ya later”
Walking out of thelunchroom
Going to my lockergrabbing my book
Placing my ear budsin
Sitting against thewall listening to music and reading

But walking throughthe halls
Halls crowded
Looking ahead of me
Seeing a friend
Smiling
Going to them
Chatting it up
Sharing stories ofthe class before
Departing
Going to class
Coming out with awhole new story to tell

Why quiet one placebut loud another?
Is it just me?
Did the move affectme?
This is what I thinkwhile I walk through the empty halls
